Most of the design challenges for this project stemmed from the machine’s large size: The 5-Bay Preform Soaking Oven is 22 feet tall x 7 feet wide x 5 feet deep. Although the 5-Bay Preform Soaking Oven had to be similar to the already-designed 3-Bay unit, everything about it, including the size of the bays, was bigger. So, for example, while the 3-Bay unit could fit in a shipping container, the 5-Bay unit could not.

This was a serious challenge because the motorized 2-axis precision positioning gantry had to be split in order to fit into the shipping container, and then easily reassemble at its final destination. Miro’s design met all engineering and earthquake requirements, while also simplifying and improving things, and making it less expensive to produce.
